Who We Are

The Cairns Spearos Spearfishing Club was founded in the 1970’s in Cairns, Queensland. At its heart, the club is a group of passionate individuals who enjoy all forms of spearfishing and want to see this sport flourish in the beautiful surrounds of Far North Queensland.

Our club brings together individuals united by a common desire to explore the beauty of the underwater world and promote responsible and sustainable spearfishing practices. We are fortunate to be located on the door step of the internationally renowned UNSECO World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef which gives us the unique opportunity to fish and explore some of the worlds richest and most outstanding oceans.

One of the key aspects of our vision is education on safe diving and boating practices. This is foundational to everything we do, and must be a focus for all involved in the sport from the newest beginners to the most dedicated spearfishermen and women.

Our other main focus as a club is sustainable fishing and ensuring the health of our aquatic life for generations to come. We regularly host educational seminars on fish identification and sustainability, as well as teaching best practices when targeting particular species.
